this just in: it’s still freezing.

Another balmy single digit day over here.  Having lived in Texas for the past five years, this winter change is not going well.  Whenever it’s over, I won’t be mad.  I promise.

Despite the weather, it was still gym day.  Today was a cardio day so I hit the treadmill to pump out 3 quick, interval rich miles and then ellipticalled for a bit.  Needless to say, after yesterday’s leg day, I can barely move.

I get a huge rush out of running on the treadmill which I know is rare.  But I like to do intervals and track them easily and for some reason treadmilling it out is the only way to do it.  I have run up to 10 miles consecutively on a treadmill, so I am aware I am crazy.

I love to run for a minute at a comfortable pace and then the next minute a little less comfortable and alternate between the two until I try and sprint it out for the last two minutes.  The best way I have found for time to pass on the treadmill is to switch up the speeds periodically and when I get to the sprinting section, I will countdown the ten second intervals until I reach the end.  Treadmill runs are all about mental fitness too.

Before I wrap this up, I wanted to give a little insight into the Kayla workout I started yesterday.  I have tried many workouts throughout my life and love switching it up.  When my two best friends who live across the country asked if I wanted to start her program with them, I was more than up for the challenge.

Yesterday, I started day one of her Bikini Body Guide and it was a killer.  I even had my ex-collegiate althlete of a boyfriend try it with me and he was just as impressed as I was with the effectiveness of this workout.  I’m proud to say, I kicked his butt in the long run.  This is definitely going to be an interesting 12 weeks, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

cold day. warm oats.

Sunday’s are always the weirdest days.  The combination of relaxation and excitement that the weekend brings is slowly wearing off and coming to a close and usually all I want to do is absolutely nothing.  That feeling combined with the sub-zero temperatures outside made today the absolute perfect day for lounging around with my pup and watching tons of Friends.

I started out my day with a delicious bowl of oats topped with cinnamon, vanilla and of course sprinkles.  I try and add sprinkles to my oatmeal everyday because they add just a touch of sweetness, but more importantly they instantly brighten my day!

IMG_1280Clearly, the frigid temps didn’t stop her willingness to play fetch for probably longer than we should have.  Boo and I went in and dethawed while chowing down on a peanut butter kong and a big, warm lunch respectively.

I love eggs.  Love ’em.  Perfect source of protein and you can throw anything in there that your little heart desires.  Today’s bowl consisted of:

  • two egg whites
  • one whole egg
  • chopped mushrooms
  • chopped onions
  • chopped zucchini
  • topped off with a tbsp of medium salsa

It doesn’t get much better than that.  With a side of an apple and some greek yogurt for dessert, I was ready to tackle day one of Kayla Itsine’s BBG which I’ll discuss in my next post.

For now, I’m going to spend my last couple of weekend hours huddled with my dog and my boyfriend for warmth and praying there’s no more sub-zero temps in my future.
